Konstantin Sermyagin

Konstantin Sermyagin is a highly-skilled petroleum engineer with 17 years of US and international experience in developing conventional and unconventional assets. He has extensive technical petroleum engineering and reservoir management expertise in modeling, evaluating and developing reservoir solutions and technologies.

He is a founder and computational reservoir engineer at Readas LLC, developing a digital reservoir engineering rational agent based on the hybridization of symbolic and non-symbolic AI. This innovative technology will allow to analyze, algorithmize, and automate usual reservoir engineering technical tasks. It combines common reservoir technical engineering expertise with power of symbolic logic and machine learning.

Before founding Readas, he was a Principal Reservoir Engineer at BHP, serving as technical champion in reservoir simulation and machine learning for field development. His work demonstrated potential for additional unconventional reserves (more than 20 percent) due to multiphase effects. His proposed solution also allows to estimate key geological and completion parameters in unconventional assets.

As a reservoir engineer in deepwater Gulf of Mexico team, also with BHP, he served as a lead engineer for the biggest Company’s reservoir, supervising long- and short-term development, resevoir surveillance and simulation, identifying field development opportunities and mentoring and coaching young engineers in the team. Results of his work informed decision making on water injection strategies and new well locations.

Prior to this, he worked in Reservoir Studies Division at DeGolyer and MacNaughton, building reservoir simulation models and proposing optimization scenarios and reserves upgrades for Company’s clients in Algeria, Russia and the USA. He prepared reports, presentations, and classes for the top corporate management and technical staff in business units.

Before joining DeGolyer and MacNaughton, he worked with several subsidiaries of YUKOS E&P in Russia. He managed waterflood optimization and carried out evaluations and predictions of reservoir performance. He built reservoir models for fracture stimulations, well enhancements, conversions, and recompletions. As a project manager, waterflooding, he also planned and voidage replacement, sweep improvement and water-cut reduction activities.

As a temporary assignment he assumed a shared reponsibility as a Head of Production Enhancement. Under his supervision the integrated team of 30 subsurface and surface professionals achieved a 20+ percent increase of base production in business unit.

Sermyagin is a graduate of Bashkir State University in Russia with distinction in chemistry. He also holds a Master of Science degree in petroleum engineering from Heriot‑Watt University and an executive certificate from the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
